Three-step workflow

How to remove links or text from a PDF

  1. 1

    Add and inspect the PDF

Select one document. Rantey counts clickable links and creates page previews locally in your browser.

  2. 2

    Choose exactly what to remove

Remove link annotations, search digital text across every page or drag boxes over visible content—including scanned text and images.

  3. 3

Create and verify the cleaned PDF

Download the result, reopen it and confirm that every sensitive area and clickable link was removed as intended.

Permanent PDF redaction, not a removable overlay

A colored rectangle placed on top of a PDF can leave the original text underneath, where it may still be copied, searched or recovered. Rantey rebuilds every page containing a redaction as a flattened page image with the marked areas already applied. The original page objects are not copied into those redacted output pages.

Manual area selectionCover text, signatures, account numbers, faces or any other visible region.
Searchable-text detectionFind matching digital PDF text across all pages and convert matches into reviewable marks.
Link annotation cleanupRemove clickable web and document links without flattening otherwise untouched pages.
Selective flatteningOnly pages with permanent redactions lose selectable text; other pages remain normal PDF content.

Remove clickable PDF links without deleting visible text

PDF links are usually annotation objects placed above page content. Removing those annotations disables the clickable region but leaves printed link text, colors and surrounding layout visible. If the URL must also disappear visually, search for it or draw a redaction box over the printed text.

Privacy and document-safety limitations

The document is processed in the current browser and is not uploaded to Rantey. Permanent page redaction removes content inside marked page regions, but it is not a complete forensic sanitizer. Metadata, attachments, comments, layers, forms or sensitive information elsewhere in the document may remain. Modifying any signed PDF invalidates its digital signature. For legal, medical, financial or government disclosures, inspect the downloaded file with a trusted professional workflow before release.

Common questions

PDF link and text remover FAQ

Can I remove every clickable link from a PDF?+

Yes. Enable Remove clickable link annotations to remove web and document link annotations while preserving visible page content.

Does drawing a redaction box permanently remove the content?+

Yes. Pages containing redaction boxes are rendered into new page images with the selected areas applied. The original text and objects are not copied into those output pages.

Can I search for text to remove from every page?+

Yes. Search works with selectable text in a digital PDF. Matching text runs are added as redaction areas, which you can inspect before downloading.

Does text search work on scanned PDFs?+

Scanned PDFs usually contain page images rather than selectable text. Use manual redaction boxes on those pages. This version does not run OCR.

Will unedited pages keep selectable text?+

Yes. Pages without permanent redactions are copied as PDF pages. Only pages containing redaction areas are flattened into images.

Are my PDF files uploaded?+

No. PDF reading, preview, link removal, redaction and output generation happen in your current browser tab.

What happens to digital signatures?+

Any modification changes the PDF and invalidates existing digital signatures. Always review the downloaded result before sharing it.

Can hidden information still remain?+

Redacted page areas are flattened, but metadata, attachments, layers or information elsewhere in the document may still exist. Use a dedicated document-sanitization workflow for high-risk disclosures.
