Quick workflow
How to merge PDF files online
- 1
Add your PDF documents
Select multiple PDF files or drop them into the tool. Move each document up or down to define the output order.
- 2
Choose pages and finishing options
Keep every page or enter precise ranges. You can rotate pages, interleave documents, add separators, number pages and control metadata.
- 3
Merge and download
Choose a filename and create the finished PDF. Processing happens inside your browser and the result downloads directly to your device.
Advanced organization
More control than a basic PDF combiner
A simple PDF joiner puts complete files one after another. Rantey also lets you remove unwanted pages before merging, change document order, rotate incorrectly scanned pages and reverse the final result. These controls help you produce the right document in one pass instead of repeatedly splitting and re-merging files.
Append vs. interleave: which merge mode should you use?
| Mode | Best for | Output behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Append documents | Reports, contracts, chapters and attachments | All selected pages from file 1, then file 2, and so on |
| Interleave pages | Odd/even scans, paired translations and matching records | Page 1 from each file, then page 2 from each file, continuing in rounds |
| Reverse output | Scans captured in the wrong direction | Reverses the complete page sequence after append or interleave |
Merge selected PDF pages with page ranges
Each source file has its own page range field. Enter 1-5 for the first five pages, 2,4,8 for individual pages, or 6- for page 6 through the end. Separate multiple selections with commas. The output estimate updates before you merge, making it easier to catch an incomplete range.
Private PDF merging without server uploads
Rantey loads and assembles the documents with a PDF library inside your current browser tab. Files are not submitted to the Rantey server, stored in an account or placed in an upload queue. This design improves privacy, but it also means your device supplies the memory and processing power. For a reliable mobile experience, close unused tabs and split extremely large jobs into smaller batches.
Important PDF compatibility notes
The merger copies visible PDF pages into a new document. Password-protected files cannot be opened. Document-level bookmarks, digital signatures, portfolios, embedded attachments and some interactive form behavior may not survive the merge. A changed PDF invalidates existing digital signatures by design. Always open the downloaded result and check critical legal, financial or archival documents.
Common questions
PDF merger FAQ
How do I merge PDF files online?+
Add two or more PDFs, arrange their order, optionally select page ranges, and choose Merge and download. The finished file is created locally in your browser.
Can I choose specific pages from each PDF?+
Yes. Enter ranges such as 1-3,5,8- to include pages 1 through 3, page 5, and page 8 through the end.
What does interleave PDF pages mean?+
Interleave alternates pages between documents. It is useful for combining separately scanned odd and even pages or matching paired documents.
Can I rotate pages while merging PDFs?+
Yes. Set a rotation of 90, 180 or 270 degrees for every selected page from an individual file.
Can I add page numbers to the merged PDF?+
Yes. Enable page numbering to add Page X of Y near the bottom-right corner of every output page.
Does Rantey upload or store my PDF files?+
No. The PDF library runs in your browser, so selected files and the merged result stay on your device.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?+
Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not supported. Unlock a file with software you trust before adding it.
Will links, bookmarks and forms still work?+
Visible page content is copied, but document-level bookmarks, signatures and some interactive form behavior may not transfer. Review important files after merging.
