What can you put inside a QR code?
Rantey builds standards-based payload text for website links, notes, WiFi credentials, vCard contacts, email, SMS, phone calls, WhatsApp chats, map coordinates, calendar events and app links. The QR is static: scanners read the embedded content directly without passing through a Rantey tracking URL.

How the portrait QR generator works
Portrait Mosaic samples your image at each QR module. Dark data modules receive portrait-derived dark tones and empty modules receive very light tones, while the three finder patterns remain solid. Center Portrait places a small circular image over the protected middle area. Both modes force level H error correction, but the result must still be tested because every camera and print environment differs.
QR error correction and image overlays
Higher error correction adds redundant data that can help recover a partly damaged symbol, but it does not make unlimited artistic changes safe. Keep the quiet zone clear, use strong contrast and avoid covering finder patterns. Print a real sample and test it from different distances before ordering packaging or signage.

Can I put a website link or text inside a QR code?+
Yes. Choose Link for a website address or Text for a message. Rantey also creates structured QR payloads for WiFi, vCard contacts, email, SMS, phone calls, WhatsApp, locations and calendar events.
Can a portrait photo be turned into a QR code?+
A portrait can influence the QR module colors as a mosaic or appear as a protected center image. It cannot freely replace the QR structure because scanners still need high contrast, finder patterns, a quiet zone and enough undamaged data modules.
How does portrait mosaic mode protect scan reliability?+
Rantey keeps finder patterns solid, forces high error correction, maintains a light quiet zone and clamps portrait-derived module colors into dark and light contrast ranges. Always test the downloaded code on multiple phones before printing.
Do static QR codes created here expire?+
No. The encoded content is stored directly in the QR symbol, so Rantey does not control redirects, expiration or scan limits. A destination website can still change or stop working.
Is my QR content uploaded?+
No. Payload creation, portrait processing and QR rendering happen in your browser. The information you enter is not submitted to Rantey.
Which error correction level should I use?+
Level M is a practical default for plain codes. Use Q or H when adding a logo, portrait or when the code may be printed in a demanding environment, but higher levels create denser symbols.
Which export format is best?+
PNG is dependable for most digital and print uses. SVG stays sharp at any size for plain or styled vector QR codes. WebP is compact for websites. Portrait-center and portrait-mosaic designs are best exported as PNG or WebP.
Does the built-in scan test guarantee every phone will read the code?+
No. When BarcodeDetector is supported, it provides a useful local check, not universal certification. Camera quality, print size, lighting, surface, colors and scanner software can change the result.
